Anti Internet Censorship or do We Just want Freedom?

I get quite a lot of stick about this site, which exists primarily driven by my dislike of Internet Censorship. The problem of course is that many people do want to hide their internet sessions from everyone because they are criminals and are involved in criminal acts. Ergo anyone who wants to keep their communications private must have something to hide.

Of course these criminals also use mobile phones, cars, digital cameras and the postal service in their criminal acts but do we want to ban or monitor these?

Well, let me take the postal service for an example – in prisons you would expect to have your mail opened and checked for a variety of very obvious reasons. Now if the Government in your country were to set up an agency and open up all your mail they’d probably catch quite a few criminals I suspect.

Is this right – How about someone censoring all opinions, words or expressions that were deemed to be unsuitable for postal communication.

Would the world be a better place ?

I suspect not, if you censor, monitor, spy on a populations you will inevitably catch a few evil doers. But at what cost, the price I suggest you pay is freedom of expression, freedom of choice, heck even freedom itself.
